Welcome to the North West Washington Fall Run up at Government Meadows, and the Nachees trail at Green Water, WA.
A few of us from OutDoor Wire's Toyota SUV forum got together Oct. 7th, 2000 for some fun before winter hits.

Click on each picture to open it up in it's own window.
Here are the people who were in our group:
Me (Corey) '91 4Runner
Do (RokToy) 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ, 6" lift
Joe & his wife Stephanie '85 Toyota truck
John & Mike (and Bo) '92 Land Cruiser, so many extras, mind boggling
Ken '99 4Runner Highlander
Mike 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ
Ron '94 Land Cruiser
Salue '87 4Runner

We met at the SafeWay parking lot in Enumclaw.

Here is a picture of Do's Jeep. (RokToy)

After we arrived at Forest Service road 70, we pulled over to the side of the road as we lost track of Salue. Do & Ken went looking for him, but could not find him. I later found out from the forum he had some engine trouble. We'll try for another meet up with him.

Here's a shot of John's LC. That be Bo sticking his head out the window. John has this rig all set up for some serious cruisin'. He has an ARB freezer in the back, a Power Tank hanging off the rear quarter, and lots of other serious off road stuff. Those be 35" tires on there.

This is a shot of the back inside of John's rig. He has just about everything  back there. Notice the Power Tank hanging on the right side. Very nice. I'm currently getting prices on a locally built unit.

Mike led us up to one entry point to the Nachees trail. I did not opt to go up this hill, not so much for the steepness, but because of the ruts. I did not want to end up wrecking my running boards. I think rock sliders will be on my wish list someday, and I'll lose the rb's. These pics do not do the trail here justice as it's a lot steeper than it appears. I am glad I did not attempt this hill as Ron did do some damage to his running boards.
This is John going up here.

Here's a shot of Ron doing the big hill.

And here is Ken going up.

Here's Joe doing it.

Since I did not want to go up this hill, I ventured up further on the road that led in here. It came to a dead end, nice camping spot! There was also ice all over the place. It's the only ice I saw the whole day.

Just a view from my window.

Mount Rainier in the back drop.

Passing some time waiting for the rest of the group to surface from the the first trail they went up.

Here are 2 pictures taken with Ken's camera since I was not up on the first trail with them.
This one is of RokToy showing off his suspension.

The next one is of Ken following the ridge line on top. What a view!

Later on, we went up to another part of the Nachees trail & I decided to try it. I will admit I have never had my rig on stuff like this. We were going over all kinds of obstacles & my open differentials were spinning the tires occasionally. I had to have Mike with the red Jeep spot me a few times as I got stuck. Wish I had more pics of the trail here. This is real gnarly @ss stuff. I came through without a scratch, and no damage to the running boards. You really had to snake you rig carefully around the trees in here as one slip, and you will end up biting it.

John feeding a very thirsty Land Cruiser. I told ya he has everything under the sun for his rig. Bo sure likes to get in the pics!

Here we are taking a break. The trail was easier here, little did I know what lay ahead...

Same resting spot.

That's it for my pics, but the adventure just begins! After we got through the trail, we saw some logging roads & Ken, John, & I decided to see if they would take us back down to Forest Road 70. We came to a dead end. Ken decided to join the rest of the group and go back through that gnarly trail. I did not want to go back through it, but I probably would have been better off if I had.
John & I continued to go on the logging roads and came to 3 more dead ends. We finally found a road that led down to black top. But I did not recognize it at all. I had this hunch we were actually now in Eastern Washington instead of our Western side. I followed John for awhile, and I slowed down & asked some dirt bikers where in the heck I was. They said I was clear over Chinook Pass and on the East side of the state and near Yakima. I could not believe it. We covered some long terrain back there. I had to backtrack about 60 miles I would say to get back to our side of the state and end up down by Forest Road 70 again. I really took the long way home.

Summery of trip:
It was a lot of fun, lots of scenery, but the trail they first went on, I'm glad I didn't. I would have done some serious damage.
The 2nd trail was a little nerve racking as I got stuck a few times due to the open diffs, and the trail being pretty hard. It is fun though using your mirrors to snake yourself around a trees & big quarter panel hungry rocks. And climbing up & over the ruts & stumps? It was like going up stairs. Pretty cool, just wish I had been locked.
I was very impressed with Ken's rig for going through all that stuff. He was able to make it through better than me due to his rear locker.
This Nachess trail is the kind I would build up a 2nd machine for. I would not want to really take my daily driver and my only ride through that part of the Nachees we were on. It did take a little beating on the trail, but no body damage which is good.
Anyone have a donor 1st gen? I would love to fix one up just for this kind of thing.
